Mirko Crocop in the UFC again

June 3rd 2009 13:45

After all these months spent with training and recovering from his knee operation, Mirko Crocop Filipovic, one of the best , most famous and most productive MMA fighters ever, finally seems to decide to return back to UFC.

The question is, whether UFC will let him go back to the ring concerning the fact that he has left the organization in a rather interesting way. After winning PRIDE in 2006, in 2007 the croatian fighter has decided to join UFC from 2007, which was also the start of an unlucky period in his career, with many fights lost by him. Thank's to this, by the end of 2007 he has decided to go back to Japan, and finally to sign with another japanese organization called DREAM which started in 2008 organized by FEG.

For DREAM he finally managed to have altogether 2 fights, all time inbetween had to be spent with various operations and a long recovering period. His last match in DREAM he fought against the upcoming dutch MMA figher Alistair Overeem, the fight was later declared no contest as Overeem is 20 kgs heavier than Crocop and also because of an injry thanks to an accidental hit to his groin by Overeem.
He won his last match for DYNAMITE!!! - also organized by the japanese FEG - against Hong Man Choi on 31th Dec. 2008 before his knee operation. Then he stated that he will not fight for at least 6 months.

The croatian champion has since spent these months of 2009 with recovering and training, He returned back to his old coach who trained him for his K-1 fights, Crocop now states he is in his best shape ever. and also last month he has officially declared his will to return to UFC, because accornign to him, in DREAM there is no champion he finds a real challange to defeat.

According the news his first match he will fight on the event UFC 99 in Germany against Mustapha Al Turk this summer. Let's hope he will have be luckier in the UFC than he had been, he would deserve an american victory. Then who knows maybe he will get the chance again to fight against Fedor Emelianenko.
